When searching for a relative, please keep in mind the county burial ground for those whose families could not pay for or care for their loved ones body. It happens.
According to the bhamwiki page for the Jefferson County Cemetery, there are over 8,000 graves (count taken in 2016).
To gain access to the grave sites, you have to follow procedures which you can read on the Jefferson County Indigent-County Burial website. When you are able to gain access to the cemetery and are able to locate your family relative’s grave, be sure to take a photo of the marker or headstone. Print out the photo and put it in your papers for that family line. By recording and documenting this memory it will assure that … that individual doesn’t become lost.
