Blacks working hard for the money

Many Blacks left their farms and fields to earn more money with the railroad. The families way of life was much brighter. On the U S Federal Census in many communities under subject occupation shows the position each person worked.  Do you have an Ancestor that worked for the railroad?

The Pendleton Store Still Stands

While driving through the Northeast corner of Jefferson County, in the old community of Patrick City, which is now Leeds, Alabama. The Pendleton’s came from Margaret, Alabama. When they moved into Patrick City, they didn’t have a place for simple groceries. In the evening after school, kids would come to the store and visit with Mrs. Pendleton.
